Fine art landscape photography by South African photographer Liesel Kershoff.

"Liesel Kershoff may use a camera and a tripod to make her images, but in spirit she is more like painter. Like Banes and Pierneef, who would take their easels out into the veld, Liesel spends many hours in remote locations, watching the light and waiting for the right moment to press the shutter button. And, like a landscape painter, there is a degree of subjective interpretation in her work'

"Liesel is more a painter than a photographer. She has a feel for light, shadow and colour that is more akin to an oil painting than a photographic image. She is keenly aware of the layering of light and textures in her landscapes-this adds tremendously to the depth of her images and leads the viewer into the landscape itself-the images are three dimensional and full of detail and texture.

She is highly accomplished at digital wizardry as well - she does any work on her images herself-whether stitching together multiple images to make one very wide panoramic or controlling the interplay of light, colour and texture on a straight single exposure. She is not scared to go out in hectic weather or extremely early in the morning to get the best vibe and impact from every photographic situation that presents itself. She is always on the lookout for interesting and new ways to portray stretches of the South African landscape which have been shot by other photographers but never with Liesel’s unique eye and feel for the landscape.

She is meticulous with the way her images are printed as well-everything has to be archival both on the print and the framing so the person who purchases one of her works is getting a long-term image which will grow in value."
